Dear CHS Students and Parents,
My name is Juliet Schwing Davis and I will be the new Varsity Tennis Coach at CHS. I am very excited to take on this position for many reasons. I am a 1995 graduate of CHS and my love for tennis began right here on the CHS campus. I started playing when I was 10 years old on the CHS tennis courts with Brother Ernest Leblanc and later played both middle school and high school Panther Tennis. I graduated from the LSU School of Dentistry in 1999 with a Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene. When I am not practicing as a part-time dental hygienist, I play tennis with the Ladies Day League in Lafayette and am a member of several USTA teams. I am best known at CHS as Russell’s (8th), Rosemary’s (6th) and Jules’ (3rd) mother. I am filled with Panther Pride and look forward to combining that with my love for the game of tennis.
CHS is proud to announce that we have a Tennis Professional, Coach Lindsey Kelly, that will be assisting to coach and train our Panthers this year. Coach Lyndsey moved to Lafayette from New Zealand in 2016, and quickly became USPTA certified. She coaches out of Thomas Park and founded Lafayette Junior and Adult Tennis. She has gained extensive on-court training in 10U, Junior and Adult tennis progressions from the USTA and USPTA. Lyndsey was a top High School player in Alaska in both singles and doubles from 2005-2008, and after graduating lead the team to a State Championship title as the Assistant Coach. Coach Lyndsey is also a Certified Professional Life Coach (CPC) specializing in Life Transition and Mental Fitness Coaching for teens and young adults.
Coach Lindsey and I will be hosting a short introductory meeting on Wednesday, December 6 at 6:00 pm in the CHS Library. At this meeting, we will explain to parents and students how the two of us together will work in unison to coach our Panther Tennis. We welcome anyone (grades 9-12) that may be interested in coming out for the varsity tennis team. CHS is also excited to announce that we have plans to bring back our middle school tennis team. There will be a meeting for middle school tennis at 6:30 pm after the high school meeting. We welcome anyone in grades 6-8 and their parents to attend.
Tennis should be played year-round to keep skills up and stay conditioned. Coach Lyndsey has kindly offered to conduct some affordable tennis clinics to get players prepared for our season. The varsity clinics will be held on the following Wednesday’s at Willowood Park: 12/6, 12/13 and 12/20 from 3:15-4:45 pm. The middle school clinics will be held on the following Saturday’s at Willowood Park: 12/9 and 12/16 from 1:30-3:00 pm. Her rate for clinics is $10 per clinic if 6 or more players attend, and $15 if less than 6 players attend. She will also offer private and semi-private lessons from 6-8 on those evenings at Willowood Park. Those spots can be arranged through Coach Lyndsey. Her contact information is:
